What comes to your mind when you first hear the name -𝐃𝐞𝐡𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐧. The capital city of Uttarakhand erstwhile known as Uttranchal. Dehradun also rendered 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐧 which is a term used for the valley that lies between the Himalayas and the Shivalik. Dehradun comes under the Garwhal region which is located in the Doon valley at the foothills of the Himalayas. The city sleeps with glowing night, wakes up with the crowd.

Getting There:

Being the capital of Uttarakhand, Dehradun is well connected by road, rail, and air and is easily accessible from most parts of the country.Dehradun’s Airport is the Jolly Grant Airport which is located somewhat 20 km away from the city center and Dehradun also connected by regular train or bus services to cities Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, etc. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 1-2 kilometers away from the city center.
Being well connected by all means of transport makes Dehradun easy to reach and an accessible tourist destination that you can visit any time of the year.

For adventure and nature lovers, Robber’s Cave is one of the best attractions of Dehradun.
Robber’s Cave is locally known as Guchhupani, located near Saharadhara, is a river formation in Himalaya.

The cave is about 600 meters long divided into two main parts. It is a natural cave formation where rivers flow inside the cave. Tourists come here to witness the gushing waterfall and trek between two cliffs via a dark cave.

Buddha temple-

The temple is somewhat 4 km from ISBT Dehradun one can easily reach there by taking Vikrams(local Taxis )..

A famous Buddha temple and holy school for Tibetan religion also known as Tibetan Monastery were built in 1965 by the Kochen Rinpoche. The Buddha temple is a built-in Japanese architecture style that gives it an attractive design. The place provides mental relaxation due to the atmosphere created by the Mongs. Thousands of people come to visit Buddha temple due to which it has become the most attractive part of Dehradun.

I͟N͟D͟I͟A͟N͟ M͟I͟L͟I͟T͟A͟R͟Y͟ A͟C͟A͟D͟E͟M͟Y͟ –

The Indian Military Academy (IMA) is an officer -training academy. It was established in 1932 following a recommendation by a military committee set up under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Philip Chetwode. The academy spreads over 1,400 acres.

MUSSOORIE

An underrated hill station in Dehradun, Mussoorie is at the head of Dehradun city. The panoramic views from this altitude are simply breath breaking and for lovers of snow, Mussoorie is a must-visit destination to experience the phenomenon. For worshippers of Shiva, a visit to the Tapkeshwar is a must when in Dehradun. The temple is so named because it is inside a cave and water from its ceiling trickles down on the Shiva lingam drop by drop. The cave that houses Tapkeshwar Mandir is called Drona Cave. The cave is also known as Drona Gufa, it is believed that Ashwatama one of the great legends of Mahabharata was born inside this cave.

A yearly fair is organized on Shivratri, thousands of devotees get the blessing of Lord Shiva on the day.

A grand building that is bigger than the Buckingham Palace, visit the Forest Research Institute Museum to admire its architecture if nothing else. It is located in a 5 km park.

The museum was where most of India’s forest officers were trained. Today, it’s houses exhibit of plants and their medicinal use, painting of animals, birds, and plants, and 700-year Deodar cross-sections.

Paltan Bazaar is mainly famous for its shawls and brassware. You will also find a few Tibetan shops in the area. The shops usually open at 10 am and shut by 10 pm.

  • Bisu Fair:

    This fair is held at the Jhanda ground in Bissau fair cantonment arear of Chakrata block of Dehradun district.

  • Mahasu Devta’s Fair:

    Mahasu Devta’s fair is held at Hanol which is about 120 km on the Chakrata Tyuni road.

  • Saheed Veer Kesari Chandra Fair:

    This fair is held at Ramtal in Nagau gram sabha of Chakrata tehsil in Dehradun district. This fair is organized in April.
